The story behind BeenPoster

Hi! My name is Mathilde, and I am the founder of BeenPoster. In 2019-20, I was on a long journey through South America, where I experienced one amazing place after another. I have traveled to over 40 countries and visited 6 continents, and I have always loved getting an extra stamp in my passport, as it is a small, tangible souvenir of each trip.

In early 2020, I was standing in a quaint shop in a small town in Argentina. On a table among mugs, pencils, bookmarks, and other knick-knacks, my eyes fell on an elongated, passport-inspired poster. With it, you could—just like in a passport—collect stamps from around the world. I stood looking at it for a long time, thinking, “I’ve been there,” and “I need to see that place too.”

All the while, a smile spread across my face as memories bubbled up from my mind. With my love for passport stamps and pins on world maps—a small seed was sown inside me that day.

The seed was sown, and so was the desire to create a product that not only served to mark the places I have visited but could also be displayed. This was so I could relive my travel memories whenever I looked at the poster, and so that it could serve as a conversation starter among friends and family. – And it wasn't just for me, but for all of us.

For all of us who love to travel.

At the same time, the design had to be modern, minimalist, and Nordic – without taking up too much space. In short: The poster had to be able to fit into every Danish home. Before long, I found myself back in Denmark with thoughts like “What should it be called?” The company, that is. And “how do I get all these sights drawn?”

The name came to me quickly: Been – as in “BEEN THERE” and poster – well, that goes without saying. BeenPoster.
